The story follows New Yorker Rachel Chu (Wu) as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.

Crazy Rich Asians Reviews

I wanted this film to be glorious and it was GLORIOUS indeed! If you loved the book (it defers a little), you’ll enjoy this as much, and perhaps even more. It’s always a pleasure to put the glamorous thoughts on screen. There are elements of Chinese culture in everything from little details in the sets, to classic soundtracks, to the gap that sometimes exists between Chinese and Chinese-Americans. I also loved the celebration of the mouth-watering food, and the warmth of that scene early on in the hawker centre. It’s also got an all-Asian cast, which because of the novelty, puts it under a microscope. Make no mistake, it’s not a documentary or an attempt to cover all aspects of a very diverse culture or a place like Singapore, but I think it should be appreciated for what it is - a good story. At the end of the day, it’s a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy, and you can expect a dreamy, beautiful wedding scene. I can’t wait for what’s to come!

Crazy Rich Asians boast an all Asian cast. This is something that is of prominence as it is a huge step forward in the fight for inclusiveness and diversity in casting in Hollywood. The film is charming, with a talented cast. It is a great Romantic Comedy Film and it only works due to Constance Wu playing such a relatable character and allows for the audience to not feel too seperated from the wealth of the Crazy Rich Of The World. This film also gives us a sleek and beautiful look into what it’s like to live in Singapore and how it’s like to be the 0.1%. With all of its twist and turns, it is a superb story backed by strong performances and brings across the message of the differing ideals between American Ideals and Traditional Chinese Ideals. It is a Must-Watch not only because of the cultural significance of having a film with a largely Asian cast but also because of its story.

Not bad
Not too bad but it’s totally unsingapore. Stereotypes of asian making dumplings, mahjong den in Singapore?????? Hongkong canto????? And all the fake CGI scenes. But typical love story la

I went into the movie thinking that it was a light hearted movie. Oh no no honey, it was filled with meaningful lessons that we can relate to. Since many Singaporean parents are still very much traditional. Cried a lot and I loved every single second of it

This is a movie you should watch. It is funny yet touching. One of the reason being asian actor/actress were being chosen to act in this movie. However it is hard to imagine to have such a lifestyle in Singapore.

Beyond my expectations
It was just like the book! Though the plot seemed to be a little long, the pace and interesting storyline made up for it. Loved the all Asian cast and Chinese culture references throughout the movie and was surprised to see some local faces. The entire theatre was buzzing with excitement! Would gladly watch it again!

The jokes were funny but...
I’m a proud Singaporean and I get the hype over this movie. It displayed the beautiful attractions of our country and I was thrilled by it. But honestly, if you are not into romance, this movie might be another show that you will “watch and forget”. I also have to point out the lack of racial diversity in the movie even though Singapore is a multi racial country. No doubt that the storyline is cliché but the jokes were rather funny and well filmed. Nonetheless, kudos to movie for putting Singapore into the limelight!

With an all asian cast, Crazy Rich Asians is a movie to reckoned with in hollywood. Fun, emotional and entertaining, it was a joyride of a movie! Plus Henry Golding himself is stunning.

I very extravagant super wealthy lifestyle of the rich and powerful. Highly impossible is real life but still interesting to watch it on screen.

Romance Comedy
Strong local cast and many funny moments, but lack of depth to the storyline. The movie shows the cultural difference between the western and eastern and potentially the gap between the rich and the poor.

Mother vs Girlfriend
This is a fun cultural movie about Singapore and how it would be like if someone was suddenly pushed into a rich life. The characters are amazing and the displays are spectacular! I loved how the movie played out and this is a must-see! Awesome movie, if you watch it you will not regret!

Not a romantic drama lover but decided to give it a try due to the reviews and boy it's really each to its own. The only scene that took my attention was the beautiful wedding scene with the angelic song playing in the background. And the n it all ends with the most clichè ending ever.

Fun with familiar sights
A fun ride overall! It was again, fun, to see local artists and local sights on the big screen, with a distinctive chinese flair to all the song choices and such. Perhaps a victim to overhype, the movie was lacking that big Oomph, especially to book readers, but still, it was a good romp.
