Synopsis

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited as it slowly destroys everything they know. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

Haunting and Unnerving

This film is disturbing, disgusting, unnerving, terrifying and frankly, downright scary. I am utterly disturbed now, I can't stop thinking about this film and the mind-fuck it delivered inside me. Take note Hereditary doesn't rely on cheap jump scares to deliver scary moments. Horror fans (or even non-horror fans), do yourself a favour and watch this... preferably during the day. I mean.. I'm sure you would want to get a good night sleep eh?

One Of A Kind

I’ve never really enjoyed horror films and I wasn’t expecting to love this as much as Conjuring. It started out really slowly, just enough to keep me on the edge, until it all spirals out of control and into a fucking shock fest. I appreciate that Aster doesn’t rely on jump scares to provoke reactions. Watch it in the theatres for maximum thrill.

Don't be an idiot and expect jumpscares and pathetic loud noises as seen from every other horror movie released nowadays. This movie favours story, character relationships, cinematography and real suspense.

It is simply awzome...not like usual horror movies which scare us by making unexpected sounds ...but it is a total visual treat

Terrifying

No cheap scares, truly unnerving and disturbing. So much better than most horror movies of today. The imagery might keep you up the night you see it but the horrific ideas the movie presents will stay with you for weeks.
