This movie is based on the life of a legendary 19th century highwayman who steals from the rich to give to the poor. The titular real-life thief is a Robin Hood of sorts whose actions make him revered by the poor but dreaded by the rich. This movie chronicles his life as he rises from his humble beginnings, telling his story before and after he becomes a thief.
