'A Land Imagined' Is The Long-Overdue Mystery Thriller All Singaporeans Need To See

The huge success of Crazy Rich Asians is no doubt a crowning achievement of how far our country has come, but it's easy to forget that Singapore was not built on skyscrapers or chic apartments. With his stunning sophomore feature, local director Yeo Siew Hua seeks to remind us all of this gripping truth.

Filmed in the industrial west, A Land Imagined explores the sombre underbelly of Singapore that most of us have not or will not see in our lifetimes. From reclaimed lands, worker dormitories to construction sites, Yeo's multi-award-winning genre bender will take you on an unsettling trip around the forgotten places in our tiny country.

While A Land Imagined hits hardest closer to home, the film has also received praise internationally as well. Aside from its historic win at the 71st Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where it won the Golden Leopard top prize, critics have been effusive in their praise for this arthouse neo-noir.

Starring seasoned actor Peter Yu, Luna Kwok (who also picked up the Best Actress prize at Locarno) and rising star Jack Tan, A Land Imagined follows a sleepless police investigator as he investigates the disappearance of a lonely construction worker from China.
