Throwback Thursday: 'Captain Marvel' Stars You Forgot Were In These Big Blockbusters

In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we shine the spotlight on the stars of Captain Marvel and bring you some of the massive hits you might have forgotten they were in.

Brie Larson

Brie Larson Captain Marvel

Before her Academy Award-winning performance in Room catapulted her into the stratosphere, Larson spent nearly a decade playing supporting roles in many comedies and independent dramas, including Scott Pilgrim vs. the WorldThe Spectacular NowDon Jon and Trainwreck.

Among them was the buddy cop action comedy hit 21 Jump Street, where she played Jonah Hill's love interest and student Molly Tracey. We've always known she would make it big someday, but her transition from the girl-next-door to one of Hollywood's elite actresses has been nothing short of ahem, marvellous.

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson Captain Marvel

With over 100 films and a worldwide gross of more than $16 billion under his belt, no words can describe how big of a star Jackson is. From Jurassic ParkStar Wars, The Incredibles to critically-acclaimed hits like Pulp Fiction and Do The Right Thing, the man has done practically everything.

But lest you forget his fair share of duds, we're here to remind you of his laconic performance as Paladin Agent Roland Cox, a hunter of teleporters, in the 2008 sci-fi adventure Jumper. Despite a largely negative reception, the movie went on to nearly triple its production budget.

Ben Mendelsohn

Ben Mendelsohn Captain Marvel

Since his scene-stealing performance in Australian indie drama Animal Kindgom, Mendelsohn has carved out quite a reputation for himself as Hollywood's go-to guy for villain roles. He played Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Nolan Sorrento in Ready Player One, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, and will soon play the baddie again in Captain Marvel.

Perhaps, it was his minor role as evil businessman John Daggett in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises that launched his current career trajectory, where he showed how captivating he can be as a white collar criminal.

Gemma Chan

The Crazy Rich Asians star is giving up her designer shoes to play Kree warrior Minn-Erva, in what will be her most high-profile role to date. But where else have we seen this stunning British-Asian actress before?

Look no further than Michael Bay's Transformers: The Last Knight. You'll probably not recognise her under all that heavy metal - she voiced and provided motion capture for Quintessa, the Cybertronian Sorceress who wants to destroy Earth. In the mid-credits scene, Chan appears on-screen briefly as a disguised human.

Jude Law

Jude Law Captain Marvel

Nominated for two Academy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards, Law is one of the most accomplished actors working today and is no pedestrian when it comes to box office juggernauts.

Whether its The Talented Mr. RipleySherlock Holmes or Fantastic Beasts, we all recognise him from some of our favourite movies, but most have seem to forget his small yet hilarious turn as the debonair secret agent Bradley Fine in Spy alongside Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham. The Golden Globe-nominated picture made US$236 million on a budget of just US$65 million.
