Synopsis

Alus is a Mongolian electronic musician struggling to find his life purpose. He cannot bear to see his mother, who suffers from dementia, living like a prisoner in his brother`s city apartment. So, he decides to take her back to the grasslands she grew up in. In order to stop her from wandering away and getting lost, he ties her to a rope that he attaches to himself. The longer they spend bound together like this, the more Alus comes to understand his mother`s thoughts and their people`s native culture. Eventually, he realises that this rope has just made her a prisoner in a different way. He cuts the cord that binds them, setting her free and providing her with the love and dignity she truly needs in her final months. Meanwhile, Alus himself also gains a new lease on life.
