Falstaff is an operatic commedia lirica in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, adapted by Arrigo Boito from Shakespeare's plays The Merry Wives Of Windsor and scenes from Henry IV. Verdi's Falstaff takes place in Windsor, England, at the end of the 14th century. And it tells of the escapades of the old penniless and pot-bellied knight who wants to deceive the wives but ends up routed, in a dirty washing basket and tossed into the river Thames.
