In a not too distant future, Vincent Freeman is always dreaming of travelling into outer space. However, he is unable to do so as he is categorised as an "in-valid" and is only required for menial jobs. To counter this, he purchases a "valid" gene so he will be qualified to enter the Gattaca space program. His modified status only causes suspicions when a Gattaca officer dies.
