Based on Charles Dickens' novel of the same name, Mike Newell directs this drama film about a humble orphan who suddenly becomes a gentleman with the help of an unknown benefactor. Pip, an orphan who is approximately six years old, is sent by his Uncle Pumblechook to Miss Havisham, a wealthy spinster who wears an old wedding dress and lives in the dilapidated Satis House, to play with her adopted daughter Estella, with whom he falls in love. Later, Pip is approached by a lawyer, Mr. Jaggers, who tells him he is to receive a large sum of money from an anonymous benefactor and must leave for London immediately where he is to become a gentleman...
