High school student Ito lives in the rural Aomori prefecture of northern Japan - introverted and teased at school for her thick accent and Tsugaru dialect. Her only creative outlet is the shamisen, an instrument which she learned to play from her mother. When Ito sees a job ad for a ‘maid cafe’ in Aomori, she see its an opportunity for her to break free of her shyness. Aomori’s only maid cafe is a tad different from the ones in Tokyo - desperate for a new waitress, Ito gets hired on the spot. Slowly but surely Ito begins to emerge from her shell and finds her voice.
