Relationship matters
It's story of exchanging kid between two families. Accidentally, during their birth, kids were swapped between two families. Before entering the elementary school, due to medical check up, it revealed. Then two family start to negotiate among them and so on. But it's not that easy to say a 6 year old kid that they are no more their parents and he has to call "papa-mama" to someone else. At some point it turn out that to accept the truth is the hardest part in this world. And it's not true for only grown up, but for kids too. Adjustment to new surrounding and new people may be much more easier for a kid, but when we talk about changing the core relationship, it's not that adjustable. True masterpiece from Hirokazu Koreeda.
Pulls at your heartstrings... and rips them apart.
Great show! The only other Japanese flick (maybe cos I don’t watch many) that got people as emotional was the award winning Departures (2008, use Google). Might be a tad slow on the uptake, you might not be able to take it if your genre of choice is Action or Comedy or the combination of both. Plot > action scenes for me every time though.
Watched this film only because it was Japanese and it was such a great decision. An emotional tear-jerker with a great plot and wonderful acting. Thumbs up.
Watched this Japanese movie onboard the plane a few years ago. Uniqie storyline with detailed plot on father-kid relationship - inyetnal struggles and bonding. Very touching.
A lot of food for thought and some beautiful moments. The emotions and heartbreak are always grounded in reality. When parents make decisions about a child's life the repercussions are deep. I think we can all relate in some way.
