Following the phenomenal success of The Threepenny Opera in 1928, its author Bertolt Brecht (Lars Eidinger) is wooed by the world of cinema. But he is not willing to play by the film industry’s rules. His vision for The Threepenny Film is radical, uncompromising, political and pointed; he wants to make a completely new kind of film and knows that no production company will ever agree to it. As the film version begins to take shape before his eyes, Brecht takes the production company to court in order to prove that their monetary interests are taking precedence over his right as the author… In this feature film debut by writer-director Joachim A. Lang, reality merges with fiction. Everything that Brecht says in the film is based on quotes from his entire oeuvre and life.
