Rani Lakshmibai was the queen of Jhansi in North India. She refused to cede the state to the British and started the first war for Independence by fighting against the British East India Company. Dressed as a man, she became the first woman in history to wage war against the British as she fought a fierce battle in the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
