Anne Hathaway's 'Colossal' Is Shaping Up To Be A Sleeper Hit

Popcorn - News - 22 May 2017

If you weren't thinking about catching Colossal in cinemas, you should maybe reconsider. Starring the beautiful Anne Hathaway in a somewhat unusual role alongside Jason Sudeikis in this sci-fi action romance comedy, this small budget film seems to be pretty impressive. Based on early reviews, Colossal comes across as refreshing, with a dose of originality in an age where the movie industry is dominated by big budget films, movie reboots, sequels, and adaptations. With little or no fanfare like what we are used to, Colossal has slowly crept up upon us, based on the merits of its storyline alone.

Fresh on the heels of a breakup, Gloria (Anne), is a perpetual jobless party girl who returns to her hometown to take on a job at her childhood friend Oscar's (Jason) bar. She's somehow mysteriously linked to a giant monster creating havoc in another country thousands of miles away, while she's back in her small town.

What is thought to be a simple light-hearted comedy at first glance, is actually a film of different genres choke full of surprises coming one after another; packed into about 2 hours of screen time. It certainly looks like it'll make for an enjoyable time at the movies. We don't know about you but it looks like we'll be making a trip to the cinemas to judge this one for ourselves!

Colossal opens in cinemas on 8 June!

After Gloria (Anne Hathaway) loses her job and is kicked out of her boyfriend’s apartment, she leaves her life in New York and moves back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spin out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a Colossal effect on the fate of the world.
