'Lady Bird': Indie Drama Soars Into History Books

nicholas - News - 28 Nov 2017

Forget Get Out, Wonder Woman and Dunkirk. The critics have spoken – we have a new best film of the year, or perhaps ever.

Indie drama Lady Bird has now become the best-reviewed movie ever on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In her debut feature, writer-director Greta Gerwig’s coming-of-age masterpiece has achieved a perfect 100 percent score with 170 reviews and counting, breaking an 18-year-old record set by Toy Story 2 (1999), which has 163 reviews.

Even notorious movie critic Armond White, the same guy who thrashed Get Out, Dunkirk and Wonder Woman, and applauded Transformers: The Last Knight, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Assassin’s Creed, was effusive in his praise for this little gem.

Starring Academy Award-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn, Atonement), Laurie Metcalf (Toy Story), Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) and Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar), the film follows a rebellious student at a conservative Catholic high school who wants to escape her family and small-town constraints to go to New York.

Released theatrically in the US earlier this month, Lady Bird will soon delight audiences in Southeast Asia come 19 April next year, with Singapore its first premiere destination.
