Ocean's 14 Rumors Clarified By Oscar-Winning Director:

Edward Berger addresses the rumors about being approached to direct Ocean's 14. Discussions of the sequel to Ocean's 13 reignited with Brad Pitt and George Clooney reportedly returning for Ocean's 14, with both stars in talks to reprise their respective roles as Rusty Ryan and Danny Ocean. Edward Berger, who directed the Academy Award-winning All Quiet on the Western Front, had reportedly been approached as well about directing the next installment of the heist franchise.

During an interview with ColliderBerger clarified that the rumors of him being approached to direct Ocean's 14 are untrue. Despite not being attached to the upcoming project, Berger shared that he was "honored" to be associated with discussions about it, even if the discussions were only rooted in speculation. He also acknowledged how different Ocean's 14 would be from the previous films he directed. Check out Berger's comments below:

Well, I feel very honored that people think of me to be able to do something like that, and of course, I would love the challenge to do either, but again, it's rumors that are just people wanting to print some news that just have no basis in fact.

Berger's comments make it clear that the director is not involved with Ocean's 14. Based on Clooney's past comments about the script, the sequel is in the works, but it is still in very early stages without Berger or another director confirmed to be attached to the project yet. A great deal still needs to happen behind the scenes before Ocean's 14 is officially announced, which will likely include bringing back more returning Ocean's cast members beyond just Clooney and Pitt.

Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Don Cheadle, Julia Roberts, and other cast members will likely be sought after to return as well. Ocean's 8 cast members may be approached too, as the spinoff film proved to be a box office success, and Sandra Bullock's Debbie Ocean is the sister of Clooney's character. The script, cast, director, and other essential elements need to be finalized before there are further updates on the next great heist adventure in the Ocean's franchise.

While it is disappointing to learn that the reports of Berger's involvement in Ocean's 14 are untrue, knowing he is not involved provides more clarity to the movie's current status. Berger is an excellent filmmaker and appears to have another critical hit on his hands with Conclave, which currently holds a 94% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. Ocean's 14 would likely have had a different tone than its predecessors through his direction, but the sequel will instead have to be realized through the creative vision of another director who will tell the story of Danny Ocean's next outrageous heist.
