When police detective John Scottie Ferguson realises that he has vertigo - a condition when a person feels like they are moving when they aren`t - this causes him to develop fear of heights. After an accident that causes the death of a fellow officer, Scottie is forced into early retirement. However, Scottie is then hired by his old college friend, Gavin Elster, as a private investigator to follow Gavin`s wife Madeleine, who has been behaving strangely.
