Synopsis

A film about the space adventure of ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst. Spectacular and breathtaking pictures of three men embarking on a mission in 2014: German astronaut Gerst, NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman and Russian cosmonaut Maxim Suraev who fascinated millions with their 6-months-journey on board international space station ISS. The astronauts had to undergo five years of training. On 29 May 2014, at last, Alexander Gerst, the third German to fulfill this mission, leaves from space center Baikonur for ISS station, the remote outpost of mankind. Filmmaker Jürgen Hansen has accompanied Alexander Gerst for three years documenting his long way to fulfilling his lifelong dream. His stunning pictures take us on a fascinating journey into the world of space travel. Alexander Gerst, Reid Wiseman und Maxim Suraev have filmed their mission on board the international space station over a period of six months, delivering close insights into the astronauts’ weightless life in space. What does space smell like? How do you have a wash in microgravity? The film shows scientific experiments, daily routines in space and above all the climax in the life of every astronaut – the step into outer space. ZERO GRAVITY – MISSION IN SPACE depicts the fascinating world of space flight through the eyes of people who have made their dream of conquering space come true, thus enabling the viewer to witness life in space as if they had been there themselves – a truly unique experience.
