Behold: We Have All The Answers To Your Burning 'Avengers: Infinity War' Questions!

nicholas - Feature - 04 May 2018

If you’re a Marvel fan or even someone who’s wondering what’s all the buzz about, you’ve probably seen Avengers: Infinity War by now, and more than likely still reeling from THAT insane ending.

We don’t know about you, but just as satisfying as we thought the movie was, there were a couple of things we couldn’t quite grasp, or admittedly, just completely went over our heads.

Now that the dust has settled (*wink*), we’ve done a little bit of soul-searching (*wink*) and are now prepared to answer some of the biggest Avengers: Infinity War questions that you might still have or felt were left unresolved or not fully explained.

Warning: Spoilers ahead! Get out now if you haven't seen Avengers: Infinity War! You have been warned!

Where’s Valkyrie and Korg?

Context: At the end of Thor: Ragnarok, the Asgardian warrior Valkyrie and friendly rock giant Korg were last seen with Thor, Loki, Hulk and Heimdall. However, when Thanos ravages the same ship at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, these fan-favourite characters were nowhere to be found.

Best Answer: When Thor recounts the deaths of his people to Rocket Raccoon, he actually said that half of the Asgardians had managed to escape. It’s very likely that Valkyrie and Korg were the ones who led them to safety.

Where’s Ant-Man and Hawkeye?

Context: Contrary to what we had hoped would happen, both Ant-Man and Hawkeye don’t actually show up to save the day. In fact, they’re not even in Avengers: Infinity War

Best Answer: Black Widow said that Scott Lang is being kept under house arrest, while Clint Barton had retired. It’s worth mentioning that they are both fathers, and because of the laws established in Captain America: Civil War, superheroes cannot legally operate without official sanction. We can assume that they didn’t want to risk their precarious statuses with the government and risk losing their families.

What’s up with the Hulk?

Context: After the Hulk gets crushed by Thanos in the beginning of the movie, Bruce Banner spends the rest of Avengers: Infinity War desperately trying, but failing, to coax out his inner rage monster.

Best Answer: This is the first time in the MCU where the Hulk gets beaten so easily and badly. In Thor: Ragnarok, the Hulk had casually hinted that he was the strongest being in the galaxy, so his defeat at the hands of Thanos could have dealt a serious blow to his inflated ego. Thus, it is highly possible that he was driven into some state of personal exile.

Why is the Soul Stone in Vormir?

Context: Gamora finally reveals that the elusive Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone, is hidden in a seemingly random planet called Vormir.

Best Answer: The planet Vormir is part of the Kree empire, a group of planets controlled by a powerful alien race known as the Kree. As it has already been revealed, the upcoming Captain Marvel solo film will revolve around a major intergalactic conflict called the Kree-Skrull war, hence it should be much more than mere coincidence that the Soul Stone was kept in a Kree planet. It seems extremely likely that Captain Marvel herself will somehow be tied to the Soul Stone.

Why did Star-Lord react the way he did?

Context: Upon hearing that Thanos sacrificed Gamora’s life for the Soul Stone, Star-Lord lost his cool and ruined the Avengers’ plan to remove the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos’ arm.

Best Answer: Peter Quill is in essence, an illogical individual who makes decisions based on impulse. In fact, his reaction was very much identical when he found out that Ego (his dad) had killed his mother in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So yes, even though it was a very dumb move, Star-Lord behaving the way he did to Thanos is very much consistent with his character.

Why did Doctor Strange give the Time Stone to Thanos?

Context: In the beginning of the movie, Doctor Strange tells Tony Stark that he would not hesitate to sacrifice others to protect the Time Stone. However, he hands Thanos the Time Stone without as much as a second thought in exchange for Tony’s life during the penultimate fight on Titan.

Best Answer: This was not spelled out super clearly in Avengers: Infinity War, but basically, we know that Doctor Strange had visited millions of possible futures and discovered that there’s only one possible reality where they would eventually win. And in that future, it entailed surrendering the Time Stone to Thanos.

How did Spider-Man know he was going to die?

Context: Even before he had begun to disintegrate alongside his fellow Avengers, Peter Parker tells Mr. Stark that he doesn’t feel so good and doesn’t want to go before his body finally crumbles to ash.

Best Answer: This unique prescience is known as Spider-Sense, which particularly warns Spider-Man of impending danger. Peter must have felt that something bad was going to happen to him, prompting his incredibly emotional reaction.

What happened to the Infinity Gauntlet at the end?

Context: After he snaps his fingers, Thanos retreats to an idyllic planet to recuperate after a job well done. A badly damaged Infinity Gauntlet is spotted resting on a scarecrow.

Best Answer: While the Infinity Gauntlet isn’t completely destroyed, it seems that Thanos would no longer be able to harness all the powers of the Infinity Stones collectively.

Are those deaths permanent?

Context: During the finale, Thanos snaps his fingers and half of all life across the universe, including many Avengers, fade to dust.

Best Answer: It is very unlikely that characters who have future movies in development such as Black Panther, Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange would stay dead. The Soul Stone possesses the power of storing souls in a pocket universe and that’s probably where all the “dead” Avengers went. However, those first few deaths before Thanos snaps his fingers – Heimdall, Loki, Gamora and Vision, seem rather permanent.

What’s up with the end-credits scene?

Context: Just before he dies, Nick Fury uses a distress beacon which displays a star insignia on a red-and-blue background.

Best Answer: That is the emblem of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel aka the most powerful superhero the MCU has ever introduced.

Why is Gamora?

Yes, why indeed?
