Synopsis

Nine-year-old Marjane lives in Iran, surrounded by her loving and protective parents and grandmother. But she gets sent to Austria so she may study in safety, after her uncle is killed in the Iran-Iraq war. There she faces racial prejudice. When she does return to her home country, the tyrannical pressures of the Iranian society force her to abandon her country once again, sending her to France on another journey.
