Ready Or Not 2: Original Star Confirms Sequel Return

With some five years gone since the original movie became a sleeper hit, Samara Weaving confirms she's coming back for Ready or Not 2. Weaving starred in the 2019 horror-comedy as Grace, a young bride whose marriage into a wealthy family becomes a nightmare as she becomes the target of their wedding night Satanic ritual that involves them hunting her down. Scoring an 89% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and over $57 million against its $6 million production budget, Ready or Not propelled both Weaving and Radio Silence directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to mainstream stardom.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com to discuss the upcoming release of her new action-horror movie Azrael, Weaving was asked about the development of Ready or Not 2. The original star not only confirmed she will be returning for the sequel, but even indicated that tentative talks were in place with the studio and filmmakers to move forward with the follow-up, while humorously noting "I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake". See what Weaving said below:

I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.

Weaving's confirmation of being ready to return for Ready or Not 2 is a promising step forward for the sequel, even if she doesn't have a concrete timeline of when it might get off the ground. It somewhat lines up with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett's comments in April 2024 during the promotional tour for Abigail, in which they stated that the movie was "getting figured out" and promised that a script is not only complete, but is "an absolute f---ing banger of a sequel." This now leaves the ball firmly in Fox Searchlight's court, which may be where the hold up is on greenlighting the follow-up.

Just prior to the first movie's release, the studio and its parent company memorably were bought up by Disney, a famously family-friendly studio that could've hurt the sequel's chances. However, through both Searchlight and 20th Century Studios, the House of Mouse has steadily shown confidence not only in R-rated movies, but also in horror, particularly evidenced by Alien: Romulus' shift from a streaming release to a theatrical one, where it became the second-highest-grossing in the iconic sci-fi horror franchise. As such, they may be mor inclined than ever to move forward with Ready or Not 2, especially given how successful the first one was.
