The festive season has arrived and ‘tis the season to be merry. And for us movie lovers, it’s going to be the most wonderful time of the year because Santa’s got a sleigh full of cinematic presents waiting to be unwrapped.
Here’s a list of films to check out in December 2017:
Our favourite marmalade-loving bear is back for Paddington 2, a sequel to the highly successful 2014 British animated adventure. Debuting early in the UK to unanimous acclaim (100% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences can expect another near pawfect family feature.
The film follows Paddington, now happily settled with the Brown family, as he picks up a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy, only for the gift to be stolen.
Based on the award-winning bestseller novel of the same name, Wonder tells the incredibly inspiring story of a boy with facial deformities who enters fifth grade and attends a mainstream school for the first time.
Get ready for the waterworks – this compelling feel-good tale has already proven popular among both audiences and critics during its domestic theatrical run, with many calling it one of the most heart-warming movies of the year.
What is there to be said? Probably the most-anticipated movie of the year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a little less than two weeks away and we can already hear the Porgs screeching in our system.
Helmed by Looper’s Rian Johnson, Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy was apparently so impressed with the film that she gave him a “blank canvas” to work on a brand-new Star Wars trilogy.
Returning to a galaxy far, far away, the next chapter in the Skywalker saga sees Rey developing her powers with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by her potential. Meanwhile, Leia, Finn and Poe prepare to do battle with the First Order.

The game has changed but the legend continues. Charging in strong and fast, the early buzz for action adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been extremely positive, and remake-weary fans of the original Robin Williams classic can take comfort knowing that it’s not a money-grabbing attempt.
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, the film is set 20 years after the events of the first film and follows four teenagers who must play as their avatars after getting sucked into the infamous board game.
He struck gold with this year’s The Foreigner, but can Jackie Chan do it again with Bleeding Steel? You bet he can! This sci-fi action thriller sees the spritely action star completing his next death-defying stunt – scaling the heights of the Sydney Opera House.
Shot with the biggest budget ever for a Chinese production in Australia, the film follows Chan as a hardened special forces agent who becomes embroiled in a major conspiracy while protecting a scientist.
Pitch Perfect 3 (21 Dec)
The Barden Bellas are back for presumably, the third and final instalment of the hit franchise, but all is not well in Pitch Perfect 3, where they find themselves split apart and discovering that it takes more than acapella to get by in the real world.
With all cast members back for one last time, this upcoming outing will be the end of the group as we know it, and anything after would focus on a new crop of ladies. For fans of the series, this is indeed their curtain call, so don’t miss your chance to sing farewell, but only if you’re aca-up for it.
The Greatest Showman (28 Dec)
Marking his first film since hanging up his claws as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman stars in musical biopic The Greatest Showman as American showman P. T. Barnum, founder of the circus that became the famous traveling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
With original music written by Academy Award-winning La La Land lyricists Pasek and Paul, this big holiday offering celebrates the birth of show business and the sense of wonder we feel when dreams come to life.
